Third Grade Rocks

October 14, 2020

Today marks the first day of in-person learning for my daughter. Her last day of class AT school was Friday, March 13th. The spring break that lasted 180 days. That's 214 days since she has been in a classroom.

Let that sink in...214 days.

That number makes my stomach sink. I had not actually sat down and calculated the days until this moment.

It leaves me filled with mixed emotions. This year has been a rollercoaster ride for sure. Full of ups and downs. As parents, we all know the highs and lows. The confusion. The fear. The stress. But also the beauty in those early days when we stayed at home. A slower pace in life. The simplicity.

As a momtreprenuer, finding a balance with my kids home 24/7 has been a challenge. I need those designated hours of free time to devote to this business.

Today sent me spiraling back to the day my youngest started Kindergarten. The house was quiet. I miss the chatter — the commotion. It will take me awhile to get back into the rhythm. Part of me wants to keep my kids close, to protect them, shelter them. But I know they need this.

Third Grade Rocks

My third grader yearns to be back at school. This photo was taken on her first day of remote learning. She was so excited to wear this shirt, "Third Grade Rocks". The perfect shirt for the first day — and no one to appreciate it.

But there is more to this shirt than meets the eye. This shirt was passed on to her from one of my customers.

As an eCommerce business, it is difficult to connect with customers. Last year, I had the privilege of meeting one right here in Kansas City. This fall, she contacted me to donate her jeans back to our preloved store. She also passed down this amazing shirt to my daughter. This will always hold a special place in my heart. I may never get to know all of my customers on this level. But please know, when I started this business, I had parents like her in my mind. Parents like me. You are my reason.

Whatever age your child is, whatever their school situation...we are all on this rollercoaster ride together. Thank you for following along with me as a brand and as a mother. Wishing you all good health and positivity during these times.

💚💙 Natalie
